Is this trip right for you?
This trip can be enjoyed by just about anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
Egypt and Jordan can get hot in the summer months of July and August. Where possible, you will visit sites in the early morning before it gets too hot. Jordan can also be quite cool in winter, so pack layers of clothing to deal with the varying temperatures.
There are a lot of early morning starts on this itinerary where we visit sites early to beat the heat, and avoid the crowds. These are often balanced out with free afternoons and evenings.
Some of the sites you will visit involve walking on rocky and/or steep hillsides, and there is often little or no shade. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and a hat are essential.
Accommodation aboard the Nile riverboat is full board – breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. Drinks are offered in the bar area for an additional cost. An evening program is also available.
Accommodation aboard the overnight train is in two-berth cabins which convert to bunk beds. All bedding is provided on board and western-style toilets are located in each carriage. Keep in mind general train cleanliness may not be to the same standards you are accustomed to.
In Wadi Rum we stay in a permanent tented camp site
There is a lot of walking, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum, without shade so please bring comfortable shoes and a hat to make the most of your time at the sites.

Following recent safety incidents we recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest information on travelling in Egypt before your departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all areas of your itinerary. Peregrine have a protocol around safe travel taking into account information obtained from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) travel advisory and our own Local Operators, who are able to provide us with up to the minute information on the mood and feel within Country.
Peregrine will not operate tours when the Australian Government travel advisory reaches level 4 ‘Do Not Travel’.
Where possible and safe to do so, Peregrine will reroute itineraries to avoid the areas concerned and additional costs may be incurred.
Decisions to cancel or re-route upcoming tours are made on a rolling basis, as situations and DFAT advice can change at any time. Where the advice is temporarily at ‘Do Not Travel’, we will review the status of our tours approximately 2 weeks prior to departure.
