Embark on this fascinating over view of popular China with your Vincent George Travel hosts Vincent and Rosann as we begin in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai before travelling to beautifully scenic Guilin.
We then board a relaxing cruise along the Li River then take time to explore the exquisite rural area of Yangshuo. No trip to China is complete without viewing the adorable antics of the Giant Panda, visit the fascinating Terracotta Warriors, ride the bullet train to Beijing, walk the Great Wall of China then soak up the ambience of the famous Forbidden City. A bucket list journey ticking all the highlights China has to offer.
Day 1 New Zealand - Shanghai (D)
After arriving at Shanghai Airport, we will be met and transferred to our hotel followed by a welcome dinner.
Day 2 Explore Shanghai (B)(L)(D)
Today’s explorations include the peaceful Yu Gardens, the atmospheric alleys of the old town and a visit to the Silk Museum. Sightseeing involves a full day of touring around the centre of the city with three to four hours on foot. Later, cruise on the mighty Huangpu River for stunning night vistas, before dining tonight on traditional Shanghainese cuisine.
Day 3 Zhujiajiao (B)(L)
Take a one and a half drive to Zhujiajiao, one of Shanghai’s sleepy water towns. Sightseeing here is leisurely and involves a couple of hours exploring on foot. Later, return to Shanghai and enjoy the ancient treasures of the Shanghai Museum and the People’s Square, before taking a stroll on the Bund.
Day 4 Shanghai - Guilin (B)(L)
Fly two and a half hours drive to the scenic city of Guilin. Visit Seven Star Park, Caves & The Pearl Factory.
Day 5 Guilin - Yangshou (B)(L)
Take a relaxed four-hour cruise along the Li River to the charming village of Yangshuo where you will spend two nights. Around every river bend is a view to take your breath away as jagged peaks loom over rural scenes of lush greenery, grazing buffalos and local fishermen. These are small cruise boats usually holding approximately 100 passengers; with an enclosed dining area on the lower deck and an open viewing area on the upper deck. As it is so popular, there are generally many boats at the docks – please be reassured that the cruise itself will be scenic and relaxing as the boats cruise past unspoilt countryside. Disembarking from the cruise, your Local Guide will walk with you to your hotel, approximately a 30-minute walk from the river.
Day 6 Yangshou (B)(L)
Spend a morning exploring the verdant countryside of Yangshuo. Walk by lush paddy fields and slow-moving water buffalos as you admire the panoramic mountain scenery that so epitomizes the area.
Day 7 Yangshou- Guilin (B)(L)
Explore the countryside around Yangshuo this morning. The afternoon is at leisure to discover more of this beautiful town
Day 8 Guilin- Chengdu (B)(L)
Transfer to Guilin airport and fly to Chengdu. Meet the guide and transfer to hotel.
Day 9 Chengdu (B)(L)
A visit to Chengdu's famous Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding allows you to see and learn about China's celebrated bears up close in surroundings that mirror their natural habitat.
Then we will go to Wuhou Temple, also known as Memorial Temple of Marquis Wu. We will then explore Jinli street which is about 550 meters long. It is a part of the Temple of Marquis, and the buildings are in the Qing Dynasty style. The theme is Three Kingdoms Culture, a traditional folk custom.
Day 10 Chengdu-Xi’an (B)(L)
Transfer to the train station for the bullet train to Xian, Visit the lovely Little Wild Goose Pagoda.
Day 11 Xi’an (B)(L)(D)
Explore one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century,Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Stop at the Xian Art Ceramics and Lacquer Exhibition. Later, visit the ancient City Wall. This evening you will feast on traditional Shui Jiao dumplings before enjoying a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing
Day 12 Xi’an – Beijing (B)(L)
Take bullet train to Beijing. Enjoy a rickshaw tour through the traditional Hutong area.
Day 13 Beijing (B)(L)(D)
Visit the Temple of Heaven & Square Dance and walk through the famous Tiananmen Square, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, followed by a visit to the Forbidden City. Pecking Duck
Day 14 Beijing (B)(L)(D)
It is often quoted in Beijing that ‘you have not been to China until you have climbed the Great Wall’.
Visit Jade Factory. Walk along the wall. Later, wander through the exquisite Summer Palace. Your evening
entertainment will be an exciting acrobatic show. Farewell Dinner
Day 15 Beijing - NZ (B)
After check-out this morning you will be transferred to Beijing airport where we begin our journey back to NZ.
