For over three thousand years the route from Amman south to the Arabian Peninsula has been busy with pilgrims, merchants and conquering armies. Winding through sheer wadis, and along precipitous ridges, it passes numerous important historical sites. Your drive will begin with a visit to Madaba and Mt Nebo, before heading south to the crusader castles.

Jordan, though an Islamic nation, has a vibrant and well-preserved Christian heritage. The town of Madaba is still Christian, and amongst its churches are some superb mosaics, the most famous of which is a 6th century mosaic map depicting the Holy Land. It is fun to spend a while picking out the various cities and locations, and admiring the little vignettes the artist incorporated into the map.

Mt Nebo is a very important Christian site, recently visited by the Pope, for it was here, on the edge of a ridge overlooking the Dead Sea, that Moses first caught sight of the Holy Land, having led his people from Sinai. It is said that he also died and was buried here. In the basilica that marks the spot, beautiful mosaics depict rustic scenes every bit as colourful as the day they were laid.

The most impressive crusader castle is Kerak, whose solid crusader walls, refined by the Mamlukes and sits on top of a steep outcrop, making this an almost impregnable position.

Later proceed to Petra to check in at your Hotel.

Your accommodation in Petra is for 02 nights in Hotel (4*) including breakfast

Petra is magnificent, mysterious and always thrilling. Two thousand years ago, the Nabataean carved a city out of the Rose-Red Rock, and built an empire based on advanced agricultural techniques and control of area's strategic trade routes. Petra was protected for several hundred years by a ring of impenetrable mountains, breached only by the kilometer-long fissure through the mountains known as the Siq.

Wadi Rum possesses unspoilt beauty forged by millions of years of geological formation, erosion and evolution. From here, proceed to Sakkara, a section of the great necropolis of Memphis, capital of the Old Kingdom. Egyptian kings of the first and second dynasties are buried in Sakkara, located 12 miles southwest of Cairo. The famous step pyramid of King Zoser was the first pyramid to be erected in ancient Egypt, preceding those at Giza by many centuries.

Pyramids & Sphinx were reckoned by the Greeks to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A single pyramid is built of 2,300,000 blocks, each weighing an average of two and a half tons. In the face of such immensity, one cannot help but feel the wonder and awe that so many writers & artists have sought to convey over the centuries. The Cheops Pyramid is especially interesting since its interior burial chambers are open for inspection by the public.

Not far from the Pyramids is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which dates from the time of Chephren (2620 BC). Hewn from natural yellowish limestone & standing 65 feet high & 187 feet long, this unforgettable statue combines the head of a Pharaoh with a lion’s body.
